Azerbaijan's Ilham Aliyev outlines new strategic priorities at YAP Congress

At the VIII Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), President Ilham Aliyev addressed the nation's new political era following the full restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Aliyev emphasized that the party's current mission focuses on consolidating recent achievements, ensuring long-term security, and increasing military strength.

Addressing foreign policy, Aliyev asserted that Azerbaijan must maintain an independent course to prevent external interference in its domestic affairs. He noted that during the conflict and the subsequent refugee crisis, the international community provided no assistance, forcing Azerbaijan to rely on its own resources and purchase military equipment at market prices without concessions.

Regarding regional peace, Aliyev stated that a permanent settlement with Armenia is contingent upon the removal of territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Armenian Constitution. He also criticized the former Armenian leadership as war criminals and noted that the regional realities established by Azerbaijan's military success are now globally recognized.
