Ilham Aliyev receives new UN resident coordinator Dmitri Shlapachenko

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with the newly appointed United Nations resident coordinator for Azerbaijan, Dmitri Shlapachenko, on September 2. During the meeting, Shlapachenko presented his credentials to the head of state.

The discussions highlighted the strong partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN, noting Azerbaijan's role as a host for major international events such as COP29 and the World Urban Forum. Shlapachenko expressed the UN's readiness to support Azerbaijan's development programs, specifically emphasizing the importance of post-conflict reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and East Zangezur.

A significant portion of the meeting focused on the issue of landmines. Shlapachenko noted the ongoing 4th International Demining Conference in Baku and offered UN expertise to assist Azerbaijan with its extensive demining challenges. President Aliyev addressed the scale of the mine problem and its impact on reconstruction and construction efforts in the liberated territories.
