Ilhan Omar faces federal investigation into immigration history

Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations searched the Washington, D.C., residence of Representative Ilhan Omar on October 12 as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. The probe reportedly examines whether Omar or her late father provided false information on immigration paperwork when her family fled Somalia in 1995.

During the search, which lasted approximately four to five hours, agents seized 17 items, including cellphones, notebooks, computers, and a passport. Some reports indicate that federal authorities have also obtained a DNA sample and have subpoenaed members of her family, including her sister, Sahra Noor.

Omar has denied all allegations of wrongdoing, characterizing the investigation as political intimidation by the Trump administration ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Citing death threats and concerns for her family's safety after her address became public, Omar announced she plans to move out of her Washington, D.C., home.

In a recent court filing, the Department of Justice referred to the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” This has led to calls from Donald Trump for her immediate resignation, alleging identity fraud. Omar maintains that “My name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
