Ilhéus City Council leadership election sparks impeachment discussions

During a session to reconduct César Porto to the presidency of the Ilhéus City Council for the 2027/2028 biennium, discussions emerged regarding the potential impeachment of Mayor Valderico Júnior.

Councilman Márcio Bodão reported that Valderico Júnior had expressed personal fears of being removed from office following the election of the new Board. While Councilman Aldemir Almeida addressed the topic, he emphasized that removing a mandate requires a robust and just motive rather than being used as a tool for political disagreement.

Although the session included speeches advocating for institutional stability and dialogue between the Executive and Legislative branches, no formal request or consolidated movement to impeach the mayor has been presented at this time.
