Çiğli Municipality concludes earthquake awareness theater program

Çiğli Municipality has concluded its ‘Mahalle Tiyatro Günleri’ (Neighborhood Theater Days) summer program in İzmir. The initiative aimed to bring culture and arts directly to local neighborhoods to ensure easy and equal access for children.

The program featured a children's play titled ‘Depremden Korkmıyoruz’ (We Are Not Afraid of Earthquakes), written and directed by Üzeyir Tavuş. Performed across four different neighborhoods—Evka 2, Evka 5, Cumhuriyet, and Yenimahalle—the interactive play reached a total of 1,350 children.

Beyond entertainment, the play served an educational purpose by teaching children age-appropriate earthquake safety measures, including necessary precautions to take before an earthquake and correct behaviors to follow during one. Çiğli Mayor Onur Emrah Yıldız stated that the municipality prioritizes children growing up surrounded by art and expressed satisfaction with the program's ability to combine cultural experiences with vital awareness regarding earthquake safety.
