Ilia agricultural producers meet with Greek Deputy Finance Minister

Agricultural producers from the Ilia region in Greece held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dimitris Markopoulos, to address critical economic and procedural challenges facing the sector.

Initiated by Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Andreas Nikolakopoulos, the meeting included representatives from various producer groups specializing in strawberry cultivation. Key topics of discussion included taxation issues, export challenges, the ‘Geographical Indication’ (Ergosimo) status, and the need for more seasonal labor.

Strawberry cultivation is a vital pillar of the regional economy, with production areas expected to exceed 40,000 stremmata. Producers emphasized that the expansion of the sector necessitates streamlined administrative processes and solutions to labor shortages.
