Iliana Raeva calls for better training facilities for Bulgarian gymnasts
Iliana Raeva, President of the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, has called for increased state support to expand training facilities. She noted that the current lack of adequate space forces athletes to train in cramped conditions, with multiple gymnasts often sharing a single mat, which creates significant physical and mental strain.
Following the team's performance at the World Championships in Frankfurt, where they secured six medals—one gold, three silver, and two bronze—Raeva expressed optimism regarding Olympic prospects. She stated that the team currently needs two more quotas to secure the three required for Olympic participation.
Raeva also addressed the psychological demands of elite sports, noting that the discipline has become more complex and injury-prone. She emphasized that while protecting athletes' mental health is vital, the sport requires strong character and resilience to meet high national expectations.
