Ilias Kasidiaris explores political comeback scenarios

Speculation is growing regarding the political future of Ilias Kasidiaris, a former lawmaker convicted for involvement in the criminal organization Golden Dawn. As his scheduled imprisonment date of September 15 approaches, two primary scenarios for his political re-engagement are being discussed.

The first scenario involves the creation of a new, currently unidentified political entity, often referred to as a ‘ghost party.’ This movement would likely adopt more patriotic rhetoric and attempt to connect with ‘Trumpism’ to broaden its electoral appeal. However, such a move faces significant legal hurdles, as the Supreme Court of Greece has previously barred similar political groups from participating in elections due to leadership restrictions.

The second scenario explores whether Kasidiaris could run as a parliamentary candidate through an existing, legally compliant political party. While he is prohibited from serving as a party leader or high-ranking official, legal questions remain regarding his ability to run as a candidate for a party with which he has no prior formal connection.
