Ilie Arion achieves success at Arad chess Grand Prix

Junior chess player Ilie Arion achieved a significant milestone at the fourth stage of the classical chess Grand Prix in Arad. By scoring 7 points over nine rounds, Arion placed between 4th and 11th, earning a spot among the competition's award winners. This performance added 12 ELO points to his rating, allowing him to surpass the 2,000-point threshold.

On the international stage, Romanian chess players participated in the World Chess Composition Congress held in Magdeburg, Germany, from August 8–15, 2026. The delegation included Ovidiu Crăciun, who competed in the open solving tournament and composition competitions, as well as Alexandru Mihălcescu, Mihnea Costachi, and Dinu Ioan Nicula in the team solving competition. Mihălcescu notably gained 53 rating points, reaching a coefficient of 2,114.
