Ilie Bolojan holds final government meeting ahead of transition
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan presided over his final government meeting on Friday, October 16, 2026, as Romania prepares for the potential installation of the Luca Niculescu government. During the session, 14 government decisions were passed, including the reorganization of the State Secretariat for the Recognition of Merits of Fighters against the Communist Regime and the approval of a new coat of arms for the Lunca Banului commune in Vaslui county.
Key legislative updates included the adjustment of fines imposed by the National Audiovisual Council. These fines are being updated in accordance with inflation rates to maintain the effectiveness of sanctions since their last adjustment in 2009. Additionally, the meeting addressed the updating of inventory values for various public institution assets and the dismissal of Maria Buzas-Fekete from her position as subprefect of Cluj.
As the transition nears, Bolojan has urged the PNL party to consider supporting the incoming Niculescu administration to resolve ongoing budgetary decision-making delays. The new government, composed of PSD nominees and independent members, is expected to face a parliamentary vote as early as Tuesday, October 20, following agreements between the designated Prime Minister and supporting parties.
