Žilina Region election: Jurinová runs for re-election as Belousovová withdraws

Political developments are unfolding in the Žilina Self-Governing Region of Slovakia as candidates prepare for upcoming elections. Erika Jurinová, the current chairwoman of the Žilina Region and a representative of Hnutie Slovensko, is running for re-election for a third term. Jurinová noted that while her movement was initially viewed with distrust by other parties, she has managed to secure support from across the opposition spectrum, including Progressive Slovakia (PS).

In contrast, former politician Anna Belousovová has announced her withdrawal from the race for regional chairwoman. In a statement shared on Facebook, Belousovová explained that she does not wish to split the votes of citizens who are seeking a change in leadership. She criticized the current administration and specifically targeted Jurinová and Hnutie Slovensko, citing recent incidents in Bytča as a deciding factor in her decision to step down.
