Iliyan Filipov, Botev Plovdiv owner, shot dead in Plovdiv

Iliyan Filipov, a prominent Bulgarian businessman and the owner of the transport giant PIMK and the Botev Plovdiv football club, was shot and killed in Plovdiv in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on property belonging to Filipov in the Hristo Smirnenski neighborhood, near the Pechersko highway.

Authorities confirmed that Filipov died from a gunshot wound, with some reports indicating he was shot in the head. The Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the intentional murder. In response to the crime, the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior has established a command center and implemented strict security measures, including checkpoints at the entrances and exits of Plovdiv to prevent the perpetrator from leaving the area.

Filipov was a highly influential figure in both the logistics and sports sectors. Through his company PIMK, he was involved in large-scale transport and construction projects, including the modernization of the Hristo Botev Stadium. Botev Plovdiv released a statement mourning his death, noting his vital role in saving the club and his dedication to its infrastructure.
