Botev Plovdiv president Iliyan Filippov says he spent €3.8 million on stadium

Iliyan Filippov, the president of Bulgarian football club Botev Plovdiv, used his personal Facebook page after a 5‑0 victory over Cherno More to thank coaches, players and staff. He replied to a fan who suggested the club’s focus was “only the stadium,” stating that he has paid almost €3.8 million from his own companies toward the construction of the Hristo Botev stadium.

Filippov also addressed recent coaching changes, noting that former head coaches Nikola Kirov and Dimitar Dimirov (known as “Hermo”) resigned after defeats to two of the league’s most disliked teams. He emphasized that both coaches acted professionally and that he retains respect for them while insisting the club must play attacking football with wing play. The comments highlight the financial commitment by the club’s owner and ongoing managerial turnover during a challenging season.
