Boyko Borisov rejects support for Iliana Yotova in presidential race
Bulgarian political leaders and analysts are debating the dynamics of the upcoming presidential election. Boyko Borisov, leader of GERB, confirmed he will not support Iliana Yotova, describing her as an ‘ideological opponent.’ He also declined to offer explicit support to the Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev ticket, stating that GERB will focus on local elections instead.
Asen Vassilev, leader of ‘Continue the Change,’ has called for Yotova to withdraw from the race. He criticized her past decisions as Vice President, specifically regarding the pardoning of individuals, including a convicted drug trafficker. Vassilev argued that medical commissions should not be used as a basis for such pardons.
Political analysts suggest Yotova is a strong favorite for the runoff, though some warn that GERB faces political risks by not fielding its own candidate. Meanwhile, Krum Zarkov, chairman of the BSP, denied any secret agreements between GERB and Yotova’s initiative committee, emphasizing that her campaign aims to represent all Bulgarian citizens regardless of party affiliation.
