Ilja Dragunov leaves WWE as free agent

Ilja Dragunov has officially left WWE following the expiration of his contract. The former NXT and United States Champion reportedly chose not to sign a renewal, despite interest from the company to retain him. Negotiations between the two parties reached an impasse, with reports suggesting that while his contract was favorable, his impact on viewership numbers did not align with his requested compensation.

Dragunov is now a free agent and is eligible to compete immediately. While there is significant industry speculation regarding a potential move to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), sources indicate that no formal agreement or concrete negotiations have been confirmed. AEW President Tony Khan has publicly praised Dragunov, calling him a ‘tremendous, tremendous professional wrestler,’ though he noted he was unaware of the performer's specific contractual status.

His departure has also raised questions regarding his visa status in the United States, though industry insiders suggest he will likely find employment quickly if he chooses to remain in the country. Dragunov’s exit follows a period where he was reportedly sidelined from television as negotiations stalled.
