Ilkay Gündogan discusses Jürgen Klopp’s Germany coaching approach

Former national team captain Ilkay Gündogan has shared insights into Jürgen Klopp’s leadership style and his current approach as the head coach of the Germany national team. Reflecting on their time together at Borussia Dortmund, Gündogan described Klopp as an authentic and direct leader, recounting an instance where Klopp reacted impulsively to a training delay but quickly apologized and explained his reasoning.

Gündogan noted that Klopp is attempting to shift the focus of the national team away from modern individualism and toward a stronger sense of togetherness. He expressed concern regarding the influence of social media on younger players, observing that some prioritize public praise over feedback from coaches and teammates.

While acknowledging that the German squad currently faces stiff competition from nations like Spain, France, and England, Gündogan expressed support for Klopp’s tenure. He also indicated his own intention to transition into coaching following the conclusion of his playing career.
