Illawarra Hawks guard Tyler Harvey granted Australian citizenship

U.S.-born guard Tyler Harvey has been approved for Australian citizenship after passing a test at the Department of Home Affairs in Parramatta. A swearing‑in ceremony is expected before the Illawarra Hawks' season opener on 20 September, which will officially reclassify him as a local player for the 2026‑27 NBL season.

Harvey's new status frees an import slot for the Hawks, giving coach Justin Tatum and GM Mat Campbell flexibility to sign up to three imports ahead of NBL27. Harvey, a two‑time All‑NBL First Team selection and key contributor to the Hawks' 2024‑25 championship, has spent six seasons with the club and will remain under contract through the 2028 season.

The change also makes him eligible to represent the Australian Boomers as a naturalised player, subject to FIBA’s one‑naturalised‑player rule.
