Illawarra Hawks part ways with Darius Days

The Illawarra Hawks have parted ways with championship-winning import Darius Days just one game into the new NBL season. The decision follows the American centre’s limited appearance in a 95-81 loss to the New Zealand Breakers, where he played seven minutes and recorded three rebounds.

Head coach Justin Tatum described the decision as the toughest of his four-year career, noting that while the move was difficult due to Days’ integral role in the team’s 2024-25 championship victory, it was a necessary business decision for the club’s roster strategy. The Hawks stated that both parties agreed the split was in their best interests, allowing the club to pursue a new import while enabling Days to seek other opportunities.

Days was a key contributor during the previous championship season, averaging 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
