Illawarra-Shoalhaven unveils 20-year regional transport plan

The Illawarra-Shoalhaven Strategic Regional Integrated Transport Plan (SRITP) has been unveiled, outlining 47 actions intended to coordinate investment in the region’s road, rail, active, and public transport networks over the next 20 years. The plan aims to address long-standing community concerns regarding public transport reliability, road safety, and infrastructure needs as the regional population is expected to grow by 150,000 people.

Key projects mentioned include the south-facing M1 ramps at Dapto and improvements to connectivity for health services. However, while the plan includes increased bus services and an intersection upgrade near the new Shellharbour hospital, critics noted a lack of commitment to upgrading Dunmore Road. NSW Regional Transport Minister Jenny Aitchison stated that issues regarding heavy truck movement and specific road upgrades would be addressed through ongoing conversations and future commitments.
