Regional environmental and infrastructural challenges emerge in Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Spain
Various regions are facing environmental and infrastructural crises. In Calimaya, Mexico, residents are protesting against a clandestine dump and water pollution that they claim affects their health and property. Similarly, in Nezahualcóyotl, residents have threatened blockades to demand an end to a two-month water shortage, accusing local authorities of manipulating distribution.
In Chile, the municipality of Antofagasta conducted operations to eradicate 13 informal settlements (rucos) to address concerns regarding insecurity and waste accumulation. In Peru, the Comptroller General has issued warnings regarding significant budget deficits and irregularities in public works in Pacasmayo, as well as a lack of preventive measures against El Niño in Apurímac, where 26 technical files for flood prevention remain unaddressed.
In Spain, animal rights groups and neighbors in Cádiz have filed a formal complaint against the local government for failing to intervene in a case of pathological animal hoarding, where 18 cats and four dogs are being kept in unsanitary conditions, posing a public health risk.
