Illegal sand mining persists on the Lam River in Nghe An
Illegal sand mining activities are causing significant disruption on the Lam River in the Hung Nguyen Nam commune of Nghe An province. Large-scale vessels have been observed operating frequently, often under the cover of night or during heavy rain to avoid detection.
Local residents report that these vessels use multiple suction pipes to extract sand from the riverbed, creating loud noise pollution and raising fears of severe riverbank erosion. In an attempt to protect their land, community members have resorted to using high-powered flashlights to drive the vessels away from the banks.
