Illegal tobacco factory and 29 million forint seizure in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén

Authorities in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county have uncovered an illegal tobacco operation following a coordinated raid by police and tax officials. The investigation began when officers inspected a van parked in a courtyard, discovering nearly 200 kilograms of cut tobacco valued at approximately 29 million forints.

Further investigation of a nearby house led to the discovery of an illegal factory in a basement. The site contained equipment for processing and packaging, including tobacco cutting machines, scales, and wrapping devices, used to produce unregistered cigarettes.

Legal proceedings have been initiated for excise tax offenses and budget fraud. Investigators from the National Tax and Customs Administration are also looking into potential money laundering related to the operation.
