Illinois and New York Gasoline Prices Shift in Early August

Average gasoline prices in Illinois rose 9.3 cents per gallon over the past week, reaching $4.32 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 4,378 stations. The state’s average is now $0.334 higher than a month ago and $0.902 above the level a year earlier. Prices ranged from a low of $3.69 at the cheapest station to $6.99 at the most expensive.

In New York, the average price fell 0.6 cents per gallon to $4.19 per gallon. Nationally, the average price slipped 0.8 cents to $4.05 per gallon, while diesel rose 7.1 cents to $5.326 per gallon. GasBuddy’s petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan linked the recent volatility to global instability, citing continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure and broader geopolitical tensions that affect refined product prices.
