Illinois defeats Maryland 20-17 with last-second field goal

Illinois secured a 20-17 road victory over Maryland on Saturday, driven by a 26-yard field goal from Ethan Moczulski as time expired. The win extends the Illini's winning streak to three games.

Maryland, playing its first game under interim coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim following the departure of Michael Locksley, held leads during the contest. DeJuan Williams scored a 17-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and a field goal tied the game late in the fourth. Illinois responded with a 64-yard touchdown run by Javari Barnett at the start of the fourth quarter to take a 17-14 lead.

Illinois quarterback Katin Houser returned from a hand injury, contributing 223 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Brayden Trimble. Despite early offensive struggles and an interception, the Illini offense orchestrated a 13-play, 67-yard drive in the final five minutes to set up the winning kick.
