Oregon fires offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer after loss to Illinois
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning fired offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer on Sunday, following the Ducks' 21-10 loss to Illinois. The defeat marked Oregon's first road loss in Big Ten play since joining the conference in 2024.
During the game, Illinois freshman quarterback Michael Clayton II led the Illini to victory, while Aidan Laughery contributed 123 rushing yards and a 75-yard touchdown. Oregon, which fell to 4-3 overall, struggled offensively, scoring no points in the second half. The Ducks have played their last three conference games without star quarterback Dante Moore, who is sidelined with a concussion.
Mehringer had been with the program since 2022, initially serving as tight ends coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2026 season. Lanning stated the decision was made in the best interest of the program to find a new direction for the offense.
