Illinois faces drug manufacturer lawsuit and new legislative changes
A coalition of drug manufacturers has filed a lawsuit against the state of Illinois challenging a recently enacted law intended to reform the 340B program.
Separately, several new Illinois laws are set to take effect. Under House Bill 1226, residents aged 79 or older must now renew their driver’s licenses in person. Additionally, residents aged 87 or older, or those aged 75 and older seeking commercial licenses, are required to pass a driver’s test. The law also permits family members to report medical conditions of loved ones to the Secretary of State’s Office, though anonymous reports cannot be acted upon.
Other legislative changes include House Bill 3851, which expands the state’s definition of “cyber-bullying” to include the unauthorized distribution of digital images or replicas, effective for the 2026-27 school year. Senate Bill 0408 allows student performance summaries from special education programs to be shared with the Department of Human Services for Medicaid eligibility assessments, while House Bill 2962 mandates permits for drivers of school buses or activity buses transporting up to 15 people.
