In the early‑morning hours of August 1, a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling south on Mannheim Road in Hillside struck a west‑bound Ford Mustang turning onto Washington Street. The 22‑year‑old driver of the Trailblazer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Mustang driver, also 22, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with injuries. Police have not released the cause of the crash.
Later that week, a wrong‑way driver entered northbound lanes of Interstate 94 on Chicago’s South Side near 55th Street, colliding with multiple vehicles. The crash killed one person and injured several others, prompting a large emergency response and the temporary closure of northbound lanes.
