Illinois Governor Pritzker signs cash‑acceptance and jury‑duty pay bills

Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 87 bills, including measures that will require most Illinois retailers to accept cash for in‑person purchases under $500 beginning in 2028. The rule applies to businesses that process consumer transactions, with exemptions for self‑checkout, overnight sales, out‑of‑cash situations, membership‑only venues and online sales. Violations will be subject to fines.

A separate law mandates that employers pay employees their full regular wage while serving on jury duty, exempting businesses with 25 or fewer workers. Additional legislation requires schools to provide both male and female CPR training mannequins and obliges higher‑education institutions to report annually on faculty‑taught credit hours starting in 2028.
