Illinois harvest activity begins with high soybean optimism
Harvest activity in east central Illinois is beginning sporadically, with agronomists expecting a pickup in activity provided weather conditions remain favorable. Kris Ehler of Ehler Brothers noted that while many growers are not yet ready, recent heat has accelerated corn moisture reduction, with some levels falling below 20%.
While disease pressure remains a concern for corn yields, there is significant optimism regarding soybean yields due to ample moisture, sunshine, and high seed weight resulting from a wet August.
According to USDA data, 8% of the Illinois corn crop has been harvested, with 58% reported in good to excellent condition. For soybeans, 4% has been harvested, with 57% in good shape.
