Illinois Rep. Amy Briel faces harassment allegations in election race

Former staffer Laura Jackson has released a video containing allegations of sexual harassment, workplace drug use, and retaliation against Illinois State Representative Amy “Murri” Briel (D-Ottawa). Jackson claims that Briel made unwanted sexual advances and provided staff with Adderall and marijuana.

Legislative Inspector General Michael McCuskey stated that the formal complaint filed by Jackson in April 2025 was deemed unfounded a month later. Briel has rejected the claims, describing the video as a “malicious and false campaign video” released by a Republican-aligned consultancy firm.

The allegations surface during a closely contested election cycle in the district, where Briel faces Republican challenger Liz Bishop. Briel has called for the immediate release of the inspector general's report to address the claims.
