Illinois strengthens economic ties with Indonesia via new trade agreement
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has announced a new five-year agreement with Indonesia to strengthen economic ties across several sectors, including trade, agriculture, education, and technology. The agreement aims to open new markets for Illinois businesses and specifically seeks to expand opportunities for soybean producers, as Illinois is the largest soybean producer in the United States.
In 2024, Illinois exported over $715 million in goods to Indonesia, contributing to a total import-export value of nearly $1.7 billion between the two regions. Beyond commerce, the partnership will promote educational collaboration between Illinois universities and Indonesian institutions, focusing on scholarships and vocational training in STEM fields, clean energy, and healthcare.
