Illnau-Effretikon apartment fire causes evacuations and structural damage

A major fire broke out in an apartment building in Illnau-Effretikon, Switzerland, on a Saturday evening. When emergency services arrived, the attic was already fully engulfed in flames.

Eight people were evacuated from the building, and one person sustained minor injuries. The fire caused significant property damage, estimated to be several hundred thousand francs. Due to the severity of the blaze, the building has been declared uninhabitable and is at risk of collapse.

The Zurich Cantonal Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Local authorities in Illnau-Effretikon have organized emergency accommodation for the displaced residents.
