ILO adopts global platform‑worker convention

At the International Labour Organization’s 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, delegates voted 406‑8‑36 to adopt a new convention that sets global standards for platform‑based workers. The instrument covers classification, fair wages, social protection, safeguards against violence and harassment, algorithmic transparency and accountability, and requires ratification by each member state to become enforceable.

Turkish labour federation leader Ergün Atalay praised the move as a historic gain for millions of gig‑economy workers, noting Turkey’s “yes” vote and the broader impact on riders, home‑care providers, drivers and other digital‑platform employees. The convention aims to ensure that platform workers receive the same labour rights and protections as traditional employees across all participating countries.
