Dengue fever outbreaks surge across multiple Asian regions

Multiple regions across Asia are facing significant dengue fever outbreaks, with rising case numbers and fatalities reported in several countries.

In Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services reported 1,432 new hospital admissions in a single 24-hour period, bringing the year-to-date death toll to 214 and cumulative cases to 71,536. In Sri Lanka, the national case count has surpassed 99,000, with the Gampaha District identified as the primary epicenter.

The Philippines is also experiencing localized surges. In Ilocos Norte, health officials have activated dengue fast lanes in district hospitals following two reported deaths. In the Bicol region, Naga City and Albay have declared states of calamity due to high infection rates and hospital bed utilization reaching 107 percent. Meanwhile, Negros Occidental has recorded 13 deaths this year, despite a reported 34 percent decrease in total cases compared to the previous year.
