Ilona Maher rejoins USA Women’s Eagles Sevens squad

Olympic bronze medalist Ilona Maher has been named to the USA Women’s Eagles Sevens squad for a preseason tour of New Zealand. This marks her return to competitive rugby following her participation in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

The 15-player squad will travel to Mount Maunganui for a training camp and an invitational tournament held at Blake Park. The event, scheduled to begin on October 31, will feature matchups against Australia, Japan, France, Fiji, and a New Zealand Development side.

Maher, who gained significant international recognition during the Paris 2024 Olympics, has spent much of the past year pursuing media opportunities, including appearing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Her selection is part of Team USA’s broader preparation and depth-building efforts ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
