Ilse Aigner discusses health history and political ties
Bavarian Landtag President Ilse Aigner (CSU) has shared personal details regarding her health history and private life in recent podcast appearances.
Aigner revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma while serving as the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry in Angela Merkel’s cabinet. She noted that the condition was likely genetic, as her sisters were also affected. She also discussed a previous experience involving a spinal tumor before her 18th birthday, which required urgent surgery and carried a risk of paralysis.
Regarding her personal life, Aigner described her long-standing political relationship with Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder as a friendship with “all its ups and downs,” noting that they have worked together since 1994. She also addressed her status as a single person, stating that being single does not equate to loneliness for her, as she lives in a multi-generational household.
