Ilya Kharun Sets U.S. Open Record in 50m Butterfly, Beats Caeleb Dressel at Nationals

Ilya Kharun, a former Canadian swimmer now representing the United States, won the men's 50‑metre butterfly at the U.S. National Championships in Irvine, California. He posted a time of 22.59 seconds, establishing a new meet record and the fastest U.S. Open time ever recorded on American soil, surpassing the previous record.

Kharun edged out five‑time Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel, who finished second in 22.86 seconds, while Michael Andrew took third. The night also featured notable performances from other U.S. swimmers: Anna Moesch captured her second national title in the 200‑metre freestyle with a 1:55.05, making her the fifth‑fastest American ever in the event; Ryan Erisman won the 200‑metre freestyle in 1:45.23, tying for the 13th‑fastest time in U.S. history; and Isabelle Stadden posted a near‑world‑leading 2:04.76 in the 200‑metre backstroke, threatening the American record.
