Ilya Yashin opens Russian opposition party office in Finland

Russian opposition figure Ilya Yashin, currently living in exile in Berlin, has established a new party office in Finland. His party, ‘A Peaceful Russia’, aims to mobilize the Russian diaspora and those living abroad to work toward a democratic future for Russia.

Yashin, who was previously imprisoned in Russia for spreading information about war crimes before being released in a prisoner exchange, views Finland as a strategic base due to its large Russian-speaking population. He stated that the party’s ultimate goal is to take power in Russia once a window of opportunity opens.

In addition to party building, Yashin is calling for a coordinated mobilization effort during upcoming parliamentary elections. Through an initiative titled ‘Noon for Peace’, he encourages Russians both domestically and abroad to vote against the ruling ‘United Russia’ party simultaneously to demonstrate the scale of opposition to the current administration.
