IMAFIR-MT investigation targets former leaders for R$ 1 million fraud
The Mato Grosso Civil Police have launched Operation Mandato Espúrio to investigate alleged financial irregularities at the Instituto Mato-Grossense de Feijão, Pulses, Colheitas Especiais e Irrigação (IMAFIR-MT).
Investigators are looking into crimes including qualified theft, fraud, and ideological falsehood involving former president Hugo Garcia and former director Afrânio Migliari. The probe focuses on transactions exceeding R$ 1 million that occurred during a period of internal administrative disputes. One specific transfer of approximately R$ 774,000 was reportedly made to a personal account and a company linked to the executive director.
Police have executed search and seizure warrants in Cuiabá, blocked bank accounts, and suspended the suspects' access to IMAFIR-MT accounts. The institute is cooperating with the investigation as the victim.
