IMAGO analysis reveals media trends for 2026 World Cup
An analysis by IMAGO, a leading European sports content platform, reveals new insights into media consumption patterns during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Based on anonymized download and upload data, the study challenges the assumption that media attention peaks during the tournament final.
Data shows that for three out of four major sporting events analyzed, the most intense three-day window for image downloads occurred around the middle of the competition. This peak coincides with maximum tournament awareness and a high number of teams still competing for the title.
The report also highlights the increasing visibility of underdog nations and players. For example, Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha reached a significant milestone, becoming one of the most widely recognized goalkeepers due to a massive social media following, which translated into high demand for his professional imagery.
