Basque Country labor disputes and Hondarribia police investigation
In the Basque Country, the LAB union has reported a ‘concerning situation’ for domestic workers in the Busturialdea and Lea-Artibai regions, citing 32 cases of exploitation and mistreatment in the last four months. The union highlighted an incident where a police officer in Gernika reportedly removed a worker's clothing from a residence and left it at a police station.
In Hondarribia, the City Council has requested an independent investigation by the CAV Police Control and Transparency Commission into the death of Babacar Welle. Welle, a Senegalese national, was shot three times by a local police officer following an encounter where the officer claimed Welle attempted to attack an agent with a knife.
In the sports sector, Basque pelota player Imanol Ansa has publicly addressed a contract dispute with the company Oriamendi. Ansa claims the company owes him 8,500 euros in unpaid wages and has excluded him from training and competition during negotiations.
