Imbituva, Paraná: 23 killed in head-on collision involving health minibus

A head-on collision on highway BR-373 in the interior of Paraná has resulted in 23 deaths. The accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday between a truck and a minibus belonging to the Imbituva Municipal Health Department.

The minibus was transporting 27 residents to hospitals in the Curitiba metropolitan area for medical treatment. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), preliminary investigations suggest the truck crossed into the opposite lane, striking the minibus. Five people survived the crash, including a 9-year-old child, and were transported to hospitals in Ponta Grossa.

In addition to the passengers, the 26-year-old truck driver, Alex Rivail Machado da Silva, also died in the accident. The Imbituva municipal government has released the names and photos of the victims and is providing psychological and nursing support to the affected families. Collective wakes are being held at the Imbituva Municipal Sports Gymnasium.
