Imcine boosts Mexican film funding by 25% for 2026

The Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (Imcine) announced a 25.6% increase in public support for the Mexican film industry for 2026. The Imcine budget rose from 314 million to 391.4 million pesos, bringing total state investment in cinema—including a new 30% income‑tax credit capped at 40 million pesos per project—to more than 1.2 billion pesos.

The expanded resources will back 358 projects, up from 285 in 2025, covering production, distribution, exhibition, script development and preservation. Support now reaches creators in 30 states and includes 16 projects for indigenous and Afro‑descendant communities in Mexico, Guatemala and Panama. EFICINE’s historic funding limits were raised to 25 million pesos for production and 3 million for distribution per project.

Secretaria de Cultura Claudia Curiel de Icaza and Imcine director Daniela Alatorre said the plan aims to decentralize financing, promote new voices and strengthen narrative sovereignty across the country.
