IMCO report identifies highest and lowest paid university careers in Mexico

The Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) has released its 'Compara Carreras 2026' report, detailing a significant wage gap between different university disciplines in Mexico for the 2026-2027 academic cycle.

Mathematics has emerged as the highest-paying major, with an average monthly income of 29,887 pesos, displacing Medicine, which previously held the top spot. Other high-earning fields include Finance, Architecture, and Political Science, with monthly averages ranging between 24,000 and 29,000 pesos.

At the lower end of the spectrum, Literature and Nutrition are among the ten lowest-paid professions. Literature professionals earn an average of 17,973 pesos per month, while Nutrition follows closely at 17,773 pesos. Other low-earning sectors include social sciences, education, and gastronomy, with monthly incomes falling between 15,000 and 18,000 pesos.
