IMCTC and Senegal launch Peace Media initiative in Dakar

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and the Senegalese Ministry of the Armed Forces have launched the ‘Peace Media’ initiative in Dakar. The program aims to involve media professionals in the prevention of terrorism and violent extremism.

A seminar running from September 28 to October 2, 2026, is training 38 journalists and media professionals. The curriculum focuses on information verification, combating disinformation, analyzing extremist and hate speech in digital media, and promoting social cohesion and tolerance.

General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghidi, Secretary General of the IMCTC, noted that terrorist groups use disinformation and hate speech to influence minds. Similarly, Senegalese Minister of the Armed Forces Yankhoba Diémé emphasized that counter-terrorism must extend beyond military and judicial measures to include responsible media coverage that deconstructs extremist narratives without inciting panic.
