DRC and Gabon pursue economic reforms and debt management
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Félix Tshisekedi has called for the launch of the 2026 national business climate barometer to address private sector constraints and accelerate economic reforms. Simultaneously, Infrastructure Minister John Banza Lunda is engaging Belgian investors to fund major transport projects, including the development of National Road 1 and new highway networks. Additionally, the government is implementing a $250 million urban transformation and job creation project in Kinshasa, funded by the International Development Association.
In Gabon, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation to discuss the country’s public debt. Following a recent audit, Gabon’s debt was recorded at 9.52 trillion FCFA, approximately 68.91% of its GDP. The discussions aim to establish reliable financial data and ensure a sustainable fiscal trajectory through transparent management and economic reforms.
