IMF chief Georgieva to visit Argentina's Vaca Muerta with President Milei

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva is scheduled to arrive in Argentina on 27‑28 July. Her agenda includes a bilateral meeting with President Javier Milei and a private audience at the Casa Rosada, a press conference with Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and a speech at the Palacio Libertad in Buenos Aires. The visit will conclude with a historic technical tour of the Vaca Muerta shale basin in Neuquén, the first time the IMF head has inspected the field.

The tour is being framed by Argentine officials and industry analysts as a strong political endorsement of the country's energy strategy, signalling confidence in Vaca Muerta’s potential to attract further investment, boost oil and gas exports and generate foreign‑currency earnings. Economist Claudio Loser noted that the inclusion of Vaca Muerta on the IMF’s agenda underscores the importance the Fund assigns to Argentina’s energy development and overall macro‑economic program.
