IMF delegation arrives in Sri Lanka for economic review
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Ivan Papageorgio, has arrived in Sri Lanka to conduct a critical assessment of the nation's economic reform program and broader economic outlook. The mission is scheduled to remain in the country until September 23.
The visit includes the seventh integrated review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and consultations related to the 2024 Article IV assessment. The delegation will evaluate progress in implementing reforms, economic growth, public finance, revenue mobilization, foreign exchange reserves, and other key macroeconomic indicators.
Successful completion of these reviews is essential for Sri Lanka to continue receiving financial assistance under the EFF arrangement. While the country has shown signs of economic recovery following a severe crisis, challenges such as vulnerability to external shocks and the need to maintain the momentum of reforms persist.
