IMF forecasts 7.6% economic contraction for Iran

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its latest ‘World Economic Outlook’ report, providing updated forecasts for the global and regional economies. While the global economy is expected to grow by 3.1 percent this year, the IMF warns that the impact of conflict and energy crises will be unevenly distributed across different nations.

Iran is projected to face a significant economic contraction of 7.6 percent this year, with inflation expected to peak at approximately 79 percent, making it one of the highest in the world. Although a modest growth of 3.6 percent is forecasted for Iran next year, it is deemed insufficient to offset current losses.

In contrast, several other Middle Eastern nations are expected to see a recovery following current disruptions. While countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are projected to see contractions of over 3 percent this year, they are anticipated to experience robust growth of around 8 percent next year. Oman is noted as a regional exception, with a projected positive growth of 4.4 percent this year due to its lack of reliance on the Strait of Hormuz.
