IMF Lowers Turkey’s 2026 Growth Forecast to 2.9%

The International Monetary Fund reduced its projection for Turkey’s real GDP growth in 2026 to 2.9%, a 0.5‑percentage‑point cut from its April outlook, while raising the 2027 estimate to 3.6%. The IMF noted that Turkey’s economy grew 3.3% in 2024 and 3.6% in 2025, indicating a slowdown before a modest rebound.

In the broader context, the Fund expects emerging markets and developing economies to see growth ease to 3.8% in 2026 and rise to 4.5% in 2027. The report also highlighted Turkey’s role as the region’s largest and most diversified economy, serving as a key manufacturing, export and logistics hub linking Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It mentioned the growing strategic importance of the Central Asian transport corridor that runs from China through Central Asia to Turkey and Europe.
